Aachoo! New Banksy COVID Mural Unveiled In Bristol

A new mural by the elusive graffiti artist Banksy has appeared on a house in Bristol. It depicts an elderly woman coughing her false teeth out as she sprays a plume of infected saliva.

The artwork entitled “Aachoo!!” is painted on the side of a green semi-detached house in the Totterdown area of Bristol, home of the artist Banksy. The modest house which was on the market for 350,000GBP was removed from sale due to a rethink including the value of the artwork, said to worth over a million pounds. The vendors have now decided to sell the house and would like a protection order placed on the mural or have it removed to the Bristol Art Museum where it would be safe and on view to the public.

Dale Comley, a local resident, said he saw a “bulky guy in a high vis jacket” early on Thursday who he thinks was Banksy. The new mural was later confirmed and authenticated on the Banksy Instagram account as well as his official website.

The artwork, on the corner of Vale Street and Park Street, was covered up before being revealed early on Thursday morning. Mr Comley, 27, who lives on the street, said he was making coffee at around 07:00 GMT and looking out the window when he saw a man he thought “was a really keen scaffolder”.

“I saw a man in a high vis jacket leaning against the railings opposite – he was looking at the wall the whole time,” he said. “Then, about an hour later, I looked out and saw loads of people in the street,” He added.

The artwork has already attracted much attention locally and has been protected by a layer of toughened perspex.

Banksy’s stencils feature striking and humorous images occasionally combined with slogans. The message is usually anti-war, anti-capitalist, or anti-establishment. Subjects often include rats, apes, policemen, soldiers, children, and the elderly. They are highly charged and usually political by nature. Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist from Bristol, who uses subversive epigrams and dark humour to provide political and social commentary on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world. Banksy’s work grew out of the Bristol underground scene, which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. Banksy authentication and artist enquiries or reports of stolen work should be directed to Pest Control.
