Art Basel 2017 is a curated selection of 291 first-rate galleries exhibiting at the fair’s 48th edition in Basel. The gallery list for the Swiss event, taking place from June 15 to June 18, 2017, is a corker.

This summer Brighton Museum launches Be Bold, a series of collaborative events and exhibitions funded by Arts Council England and programmed in partnership with Brighton & Hove’s LGBTQ communities. Jamaican art has never been as experimental as that to be found in – say – Cuba, its neighboring island in the Greater Antilles. Cuban art reached out to the Modernist Movement almost as soon as it began. And Cuba has always had links to what was going on in the mainland nations of Latin America. Art in Jamaica, linked to the UK, remained consistently more conservative.

An exhibition of paintings by the British artist Geraldine Swayne featuring a number of new works has gone on view at The Fine Art Society. The title of the show, ‘Silvering’, refers to Swayne’s use of silver and gold grounds and aluminium and copper surfaces, reflecting the artist’s interest in the surface quality and material value of her work.
