Kate Middleton Art Installation Wins 2013 New York NADA Award

An art installation by Meg Cranston titled, “Emerald City” depicting a portrait of the Duchess of Cambridge wearing an emerald green dress, mounted on an emerald green wall with another canvas opposite, painted in the same hue, is the winner of the 2013 Artadia NADA New York Award.

The award is in partnership with the New Art Dealer’s Alliance, Meg Craston will receive an unrestricted $4,000 cash award for her artwork.  The prize is generously funded by NADA and Artadia. A jury comprised of two internationally renowned curators, Lia Gangitano, Founder/ Director, Participant Inc.; and Daniel Byers, The Richard Armstrong Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, and Co-curator, 2013 Carnegie International Carnegie Museum of Art, walked through the fair on its opening day, Friday, May 10, to determine the award winner. Said LIa Gangitano, “The booth made a strong statement, and we’re thrilled that Meg is the recipient of Artadia and NADA’s generous support.”
 
Meg Cranston is exhibiting her work at a solo booth presented by Fitzroy Gallery and Newman Popiashvili Gallery. Based in Los Angeles, Meg is acting Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Otis College, where she has been a member of the faculty for over twenty years. Cranston has been awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, J. Paul Getty Community Foundation Artist Grant, Architectural Foundation of American Art in Public Places Award, and a COLO Artist Grant. She was included in Made in LA 2012, at the Hammer Museum in collaboration with LA>
Meg Cranston will join the Artadia family and receive all lifetime privileges of the Artadia awardees, including access to Artadia’s national network, the option to participate in Artadia programs, such as our New York Residency program, our publications and exhibitions program, and our professional services and will be promoted in all Artadia materials.

Meg Cranston was born and raised in Baldwin, New York. She studied anthropology at Kenyon College in Ohio, and art at California Institute of the Arts. Cranston currently lives and works in Venice, California. Her work has been shown internationally since 1990.
