Sunday’s Art Car Boot Fair Line-Up To Include A-List Bargains

Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair

Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk and Sir Peter Blake will be among the many A-list artists selling their work at knock down prices at this year’s Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair, which takes place tomorrow across from the Truman Brewery in Shoreditch. The fair this year looks set to be the best yet. Peter Blake has created an artwork to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. Sir Peter’s portrait is based on a photograph taken by Lord Lichfield, which was painted for a reception at the Royal Academy of Arts to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002, and in keeping with the Art Car Boot Fair’s theme, ‘The Hand’, it will feature a hand-drawn hand pointing at the artist’s signature.

This year, of course, marks the 40th anniversary of the birth of punk rock, and the inventive spirit of those times is embodied by the musician Keith Levene (ex-Clash and Public Image Ltd member), who will be staging an as yet unspecified event, on the Artlyst stand along with Mark Wood, Rebecca Scott, Darren Coffield, Martin Sexton, Vanya Balogh and Paul Carter Robinson. James Roderick Moir, aka Vic Reeves, will also be at the fair selling his artworks. These will include portraits of Simon Cowell and Loyd Grossman.

This year’s line-up of established and up-and-coming artists includes Keith Coventry, Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk, Pam Hogg, Sir Peter Blake, Ben Eine, Polly Morgan in collaboration with True Rocks, Helen A Pritchard, Christian Furr, Marcus Harvey, Colin Self, Pure Evil, Mat Collishaw, and Charming Baker. Each will be personally pitching up and selling their original, exclusive artworks out of the back of new and vintage Vauxhall cars.

Expect a whimsical afternoon packed with serious art bargains, exclusive works, special editions at affordable prices, and vintage Vauxhall cars turned into unique installations. There will also be a frenzy of fabulous hands-on entertainment, sleights of hand and other magic, glove puppetry, handbag slinging, hand-printing, exotic finger food, hand-pushed trolley bars from Artists Behind Bars with hand-pulled pints and hand-shaken martinis, and plenty more:

Entertainment curated by Richard Strange  A cabaret tent takes centre-stage as an arena for music, magic, and performance art  Shrink sessions on the backseat with renowned psychoanalyst and author of ‘The Hand’, Darian Leader, Palm reading by Bob & Roberta Smith, Fine art on nails and special hand-of-the-artist prints

If vintage cars are more likely to tickle your fancy, Vauxhall Motors is dusting off its heritage collection and will be bringing along a handful of Vauxhall Victors and a quintuplet of ADAMs for artists to use as pitches at the event.

Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair will be taking place on Sunday 12th June at the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London E1 6QL between 12 – 6pm. Entry is £5. Visit artcarbootfair.com for more information, and follow #VACBF for the latest news.

Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair will be hitting the road and popping up at the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, Sussex on 16th July.
