The London Art Fair returns for its 37th edition from 22–26 January 2025, promising an inspiring showcase of modern and contemporary art from leading UK and international galleries. Known for its dedication to artistic excellence and innovation, the Fair is a vital platform for seasoned collectors, aspiring enthusiasts, and cultural institutions.
A highlight this year is the return of the Prints & Editions section, introduced in 2024. This section features accessible works from emerging talents and established names. Prints and multiples are ideal entry points for new collectors, and this curated section makes the collecting journey both engaging and approachable.
As Kathleen Soriano, interim Director of Hastings Contemporary, independent curator and broadcaster, notes, “Prints & Editions embodies the Fair’s mission to demystify the art world and make it inclusive.” Expect to find pieces by renowned artists at affordable prices, an excellent opportunity for art enthusiasts to begin or expand their collections.
Over 120 galleries will present their finest works this year, with 22 international exhibitors spanning countries, including Japan, Turkey, and Italy. New participants, like Henry Miller Fine Art and Narrative Gallery, will debut alongside established names like Osborne Samuel Gallery and Galerie Olivier Waltman. The Fair will spotlight iconic works by legends like Barbara Hepworth, Francis Bacon, and Alberto Giacometti, as well as cutting-edge contemporary creations.
Highlights include:
David Messum Fine Art showcases works from Jean-Marie Toulgouat’s studio estate, a great-grandson of Claude Monet.
Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, presenting Emily Kam Kngwarreye’s evocative paintings in anticipation of her Tate Modern retrospective.
Christopher Kingzett Fine Art and Portland Gallery, offering exceptional works by Graham Sutherland and Elisabeth Frink.
London Art Fair is renowned for supporting regional museums, and this year’s Museum Partnership welcomes the Sainsbury Centre. Known for its remarkable collection spanning cultures and eras, the Sainsbury Centre will introduce visitors to its Living Art experience. Guests can step inside an exhibition case and interact with artworks from masters like Pablo Picasso and Yinka Shonibare.
Dr. Jago Cooper, Director of the Sainsbury Centre, emphasises, “Our mission is to dissolve the barriers between art and people, transforming museums into spaces for profound human connection.”
Adding a global dimension, Visit Tampa Bay, the Fair’s destination sponsor, has commissioned a site-specific installation by Ya La’ford. Titled “Ebb and Flow: The Circle of Connection,” this immersive, multi-sensory piece explores humanity’s ties to nature and the vibrant connections between Florida and London.
Platform: Today for You, Tomorrow for Me
Curated by Becca Pelly-Fry, the 2025 Platform section delves into the interconnectedness of humanity and nature. Featuring works from six galleries, it draws on ecological themes inspired by the Q’ero people of Peru and their philosophy of reciprocal balance with the Earth.
Key artists include:
Yelena Popova, whose eco-conscious process uses flax-based linen and earth pigments.
Natalia Janula creates hybrid creatures that challenge human-centric views of the natural world.
Pelly-Fry explains, “Platform invites us to reimagine our relationship with the Earth and each other, fostering a culture of care and collaboration.”
Encounters: Artistic Journeys Across Time
The Encounters section celebrates emerging and international galleries, offering an experimental space for discovery. Notable contributions include:
Gallery KITAI presenting Mikako Nakagami’s calligraphy-inspired works from Tokyo.
Narrative Gallery, blending printmaking, photography, and mixed media from artists like Jaime Sicilia and Johnny Dowell.
Perve Galeria, revisiting the surrealist and textile works of João Artur da Silva, marking his first major London exhibition in over 40 years.
Curator Pryle Behrman remarks, “Encounters is about unexpected meetings—between artists, cultures, and eras—that expand our understanding of art and its potential.”
Special Focus: Sculptural Art
This year, there has been a significant increase in sculptural works, with entire stands dedicated to three-dimensional pieces. Architectural Heritage Ltd. will showcase a sculptor-focused exhibition, while Catto Gallery will present works by Philip Jackson, among others.
Beyond the Galleries: Programmes and Experiences
Complementing the art on display, the London Art Fair offers an exciting lineup of talks, panel discussions, and artist insights. Topics range from eco-feminism to the role of art in climate justice, with thought leaders exploring art’s capacity to inspire social and environmental change.
Visitors can also engage with interactive tools like Smartify, a mobile app that brings artworks to life through narrated stories, enhancing the Fair’s immersive appeal.
As one of the UK’s premier art events, the London Art Fair continues to evolve. It balances its commitment to showcasing modern masters with a fresh emphasis on contemporary voices and global perspectives. Whether you’re a collector, a curator, or an art enthusiast, the Fair promises an enriching experience, bringing the vibrant art world to life in the heart of London.
