David Hockney’s iconic work, The Splash, has been sold for £23.1m at Sotheby’s in London. The name of the buyer has not been disclosed. It had been estimated to sell for £20m-£30m – and ended up going for £23,117,000.

A long lost painting by LS Lowry which hasn’t been seen for 70 years has been rediscovered and heads for the auction block at Christie’s in the new year. The work titled The Mill, Pendlebury, painted in 1943 shows workers on a bank holiday with children playing cricket.

A painting by Sir Stanley Spencer titled Cookham from Englefield, that was stolen five years ago from the Stanley Spencer Gallery in Berkshire has been uncovered in a raid on a drug dealer’s home in Kingston- Upon-Thames. The work of art valued at over £1m has now been returned to the gallery, police have revealed.
