Art On A Postcard: Urban Contemporary Art and Street Photography

Art on a Postcard Spitalfields

This July Art on a Postcard (AOAP) will take over Old Spitalfields Market in the heart of Shoreditch, Europe’s hub of graffiti and street art, to present a unique exhibition and secret auction of Urban Contemporary Art and Street Photography. This is a unique opportunity to take home specially created and signed works by renowned artists.

Around 600 unique postcard-sized photographs and artworks will make up the exhibition upstairs at Old Spitalfields Market with the online auction taking place via Paddle8. As always, the identity of all the artists behind the works will remain secret until after the sale closes and as a truly democratic platform all the bidding for all artworks starts at £50. With the urban and fine art worlds merging rapidly, this is a fantastic opportunity to take home sought-after artworks at remarkable prices.

Art on a Postcard has enlisted the help of artists to curate the July exhibition. World-renowned urban artist Ben Eine and the documentary photographer Dougie Wallace will present an impressive international line up of talent including Antony Lister, Pejac, Lady Pink, Vhils, Pichiavo, Faith XLVII, Ed Kashi, Melanie Einzig, Jack Davidson and Craig Reilly.

The Private View will be held on 2 July, when Art on a Postcard will be joined by Jealous Gallery who will be live screen printing and releasing an iconic Ben Eine ‘S’ for Spitalfields. Exclusively for Art on a Postcard, Babe Studio will be back with a new version of their Shit Family Portraits. Playing on gender stereotypes in their satirical, tongue in cheek style, they will be doing group and single portraits for guests at the private view.

A second auction of full-size artworks, including Ben Eine’s two metre ‘S’ Sculpture, will be on display at the Mezzanine level of Old Spitalfields Market from 2-7 July, with bidding online at Paddle8 from 28 June – 12 July.  The “S” holds a special significance for this auction…it stands for Spitalfields, the show’s venue the show, but “S” was also Ben Eine’s first tag. Using his hallmark New Circus font Ben has created a large-scale metal S which will be on show from Tuesday 2 July at Old Spitalfields Market during the Art on a Postcard private view.  The auction of full-size works will include pieces by Chris Levine, Rachel Howard and Jake and Dinos Chapman all of which will be available to bid on via Paddle8.com in aid of The Hepatitis C Trust.

On the Saturday 5 July Art on a Postcard will be curating five stalls in Old Spitalfields Market and will be joined by artists including Sara Pope and Rugman.
