Desperate Artwives

Desperate Art wives exhibition

Desperate Artwives is the brainchild of Italian-born conceptual artist Amy Dignam, a St
Martins College of Art and Design graduate. In becoming a mother and finding herself
torn between her art practice and her maternal and domestic responsibilities she set up
Desperate Artwives in September 2012 to create an opportunity for women like herself.
Besides running Desperate Artwives, Amy has recently joined the Procreate Project as
Vice Director and co-founded the Mother House.
DAW is a collective of accomplished female artists whose creative practice interrogates
their experience of being wives and mothers and questions social expectations and
values which frame this role. The collective provides the encouragement, the
opportunities, the validation and the contextual political framework and lightens the
load saving time and providing the resources needed to exhibit and promote their work.
