Richard Ayodeji Ikhide presents an exhibition titled ‘Osmosis’, featuring a selection of new and recent drawings and paintings on paper, sketchbooks and small sculptures. Ikhide’s work explores the creation of a personal mythology, featuring aspects of fantastical self-portraiture alongside a reflection on the importance of the symbolic across different historical and geographic moments in human culture.
Drawing as an everyday and continual act of recording and thinking is fundamental to Ikhide’s practice. His pictures weave together depictions of artefacts from museums, books and online archives with snippets of observations from life, forming newly imagined scenarios set in what he terms a ‘future-past’. Complex and enigmatic, Ikhide’s work takes on the challenge of manifesting intangible and open-ended ideas in a tangible, material form.
