Every object carries a story – quietly embedded in its form, its material, and the context from which it emerged. When objects are brought together, these stories begin to speak to one another. Their individual narratives intertwine, creating a dialogue that invites multiple perspectives and opens pathways to richer understanding.
This exhibition at Messums London, 28 Cork Street, brings these dialogues to life. Talking Objects presents a series of carefully curated pairings between artworks, each encounter offering new interpretations and unexpected connections. Spanning a century of artistic production, the exhibition draws on the work of internationally renowned artists whose practices, though diverse, share resonant themes and visual echoes.
Many of the artists featured may never have crossed paths, yet their works converse across time and space. Through contrasts and affinities – of form, material, subject, and sensibility – the exhibition reveals how different approaches can illuminate similar questions. Whether through their differences or their similarities, each pairing encourages viewers to reconsider how art can speak, respond, and reflect.
In bringing these works together, Talking Objects demonstrates how art continues to evolve through dialogue, offering fresh ways of seeing both the individual pieces and the stories they collectively create.
