Art of London’s Art After Dark transforms the West End into a free, week-long celebration of art, music, and nightlife from 3-10 February.
Artist Lakwena Maciver unveils 7-metre-high tower of illuminated stacked disco lightboxes in Piccadilly Circus, in tribute to sound systems and London’s music scene.
Titled Rise and Shine, Lakwena Maciver’s towering art installation features 30 stacked, glowing disco lightboxes celebrating London’s nightlife and carnival culture, set to a soundtrack of hip-hop, funk and soul. Its acid-bright visuals and illuminated forms reference the nightlife of the 1980s and 1990s, a period that influenced music genres from hip-hop to drum and bass.
