Art Basel Paris 2025 Final Sales Report – Artlyst

Art Basel Paris 2025

Art Basel Paris has settled into its second year at the Grand Palais with the confidence of a show that knows where it stands. What began as a careful courtship between Basel’s global brand and the city’s deep cultural instinct now feels like a proper union. This year’s edition—206 galleries from 41 countries, 65 of them French—drew over 73,000 visitors, a number that barely captures the intensity inside the hall. Sales were brisk, but more than that, the fair felt alive in the way Paris can when art and commerce meet without apology.

The fair’s range was cinematic. Gerhard Richter and Modigliani shared airspace with Julie Mehretu’s muscular abstraction and Leiko Ikemura’s ghostlike forms. Elsewhere, rediscoveries like Marie Bracquemond and Lee ShinJa held quiet authority, while newcomers Yu Nishimura and Özgür Kar hinted at the next turn in the conversation. Across its three sectors—Galeries, Emergence, and Premise—the fair unfolded less like a market and more like a map of the city’s artistic metabolism. Rubens and Degas anchored the past, Meret Oppenheim lent her surreal bite, and Dadamaino, Bergmann-Michel, and Hyppolite re-entered the canon on their own terms. Meanwhile, Latifa Echakhch, Otobong Nkanga, and Ai Weiwei reminded everyone that experimentation still has weight, not just gloss.

The Grand Palais, gleaming after its long restoration, amplified the city’s temperament—elegant but unafraid of energy. The aisles felt crowded with conversation: curators from the Pompidou and Tate, collectors from Asia and the Americas, all taking the measure of Paris as a rival to Basel, London, and New York. More than 240 museums and foundations were in attendance, a statistic that’s less about numbers than the cultural gravity Paris continues to exert.

Outside the main hall, the Public Program expanded across nine venues, extending the fair’s reach into the city’s daily pulse. Miu Miu returned as sponsor, and Loïc Prigent’s “Oh La La!” rehang injected a note of wit into the weekend—a nod to the city’s fusion of art and fashion, intellect and flair. Even the official visits—President Macron, First Lady Brigitte, and Culture Minister Rachida Dati—seemed less ceremonial than symbolic: Paris reclaiming its place at the centre of the art world’s global circuit.

Clément Delépine, directing the fair for its second year, described it as “coming home.” He’s not wrong. The fair has found its footing here—commercially confident, culturally aware, and unafraid to speak in the city’s own accent. Looking ahead to 2026, with Karim Crippa stepping in as the new director, the task will not just be to grow, but to sustain the tempo. Paris doesn’t need another art fair. What it needs—and what Art Basel Paris is starting to deliver—is a fair that feels like part of the city’s bloodstream.
