Top 10 – Kitsch Works Of Art

8. Brooklyn Bridge By Leroy Neiman

Leroy Neiman

This work seems almost prophetic, in light of the garish sunset’s fiery colours, and the presence of the Twin Towers in the background of Brooklyn Bridge. But the Twin Towers were not Neiman’s only iconic interest; in 1954, Neiman began his association with Playboy Magazine. the kitsch artist had met Hugh Hefner while doing freelance fashion illustration for the Carson Pirie Scott department store chain, (Artlyst didn’t realise American fashion of the 50s was that loud?) where Hefner was a writer. Among Neiman’s contribution over the next 50 years, included a feature for 15 years titled “Man at His Leisure,” where Neiman would paint illustrations of his travels to exotic locations – possibly locations where lorries filled with paint often collided.
