2. Bjarne Melgaard’s Black Woman With Dasha Zhukova Sitting On Her

Fashion editor Miroslava Duma issued a public apology after posting an offensive photograph on her website, Buro 24/7. Duma, who published a picture of Russian socialite Dasha Zhukova sitting on a half-naked mannequin of a black woman, ignited mass outrage online, sparking accusations of racism and gross insensitivity, this was made even worse by the fact that it was posted on Martin Luther King Day. Duma removed the offending picture from the website’s Instagram account following multiple complaints. The editor also issued an apology, saying, “We are against racism or gender inequality or anything that infringes upon anyone’s rights. We love, respect and look up to people regardless of their race, gender or social status.” Duma later explained that the chair was an “artwork designed by Norwegian artist Bjarne Melgaard”, which was created as a reinterpretation of the controversial works by British Pop-artist Allen Jones.
