7. Austin Osman Spare
Possibly one of the most outsider artists, who may have caused the font to bubble if ever visiting the local church; Austin Osman Spare (1886 – 1956) was an English artist and occultist, gaining a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Art ,who later worked as both a draughtsman and a painter. Influenced by symbolism and the artistic decadence of art nouveau, and depictions of monstrous and sexual imagery. In an occult capacity, he developed idiosyncratic magical techniques including automatic writing, automatic drawing, becoming briefly involved with Aleister Crowley – Spooky.
