Josh Baum Wins Zabludowicz Collection Future Map Prize

The Zabludowicz Collection Future Map Prize has been won by Josh Baum, a recent MA Fine Art graduate from Central Saint Martins. The £3,000 prize was created last year to support a graduating student from one of the University of Arts colleges. Baum’s  sculpture  Instrument for Observing Water Bounce (2010) was chosen as the winning work by a panel from the Zabludowicz Collection.  Anita Zabludowicz, designer Ron Arad and artist Toby Ziegler were on the selection panel. The award was announced last night.The Zabludowicz Collection Future Map Prize was founded in 2009 to support one graduating student from University of the Arts London’s annual Future Map exhibition. Selected from the exhibition by a panel of invited experts, the prize is a £3,000 award and a chance to make a commercial edition with the Zabludowicz Collection. The aim of the prize is to enable the winning practitioner to develop new work in the months following their graduation, by both supporting them financially and facilitating a new limited edition by them, fostering a sustainable future for the artist.

“The months after graduation are a critical time for any artist. We hope that this award and the curatorial support it
includes will assist in a smooth transition from student to professional artist,” Anita Zabludowicz.
Last year’s winner, selected by Anita Zabludowicz, Nancy Durrant and Jeremy Deller, was Cindie Cheung: “Receiving the prize money allowed me to work on a project of greater scale and ambition. Working on the edition with the Zabludowicz Collection was exciting and productive.”
Cindie has produced an edition for the Zabludowicz Collection, on show during Future Map 10. Titled ‘Compositional Study: Pose # 1’, the work is an edition of 10 and is available for sale at the Zabludowicz Collection Shop. Proceeds will be split evenly between the artist and the Collection’s Interaction Programme.
