Latitude Announces Six Cutting Edge Brazil Galleries At Frieze London


Latitude is to present six leading Brazilian galleries  at London’s Frieze Art Fair next week. Highlights include Galeria Fortes Vilaça’s presentation of multimedia sculptural works by Peruvian artist, Armando Andrade Tudela, works by Portuguese artistic duo, João Maria Gusmão + Pedro Paiva and Welsh conceptualist artist, Cerith Wyn Evans who is currently presenting a major solo show at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London. Galeria Fortes Vilaça will also showcase works by some of Brazil’s leading contemporary artists on their stand, including Iran do Espírito Santo, Adriana Varejão, Jac Leirner, José Damasceno and Valeska Soares.

Galeria Luisa Strina, which this year celebrates 40 years since founder Luisa Strina started her collection, will present work by a wide range of admired artists including, Cildo Meireles, Pedro Reyes, Fernanda Gomes, Alexandre da Cunha, Carlos Garaicoa, Clarissa Tossin, Eduardo Basualdo, Federico Herrero, Jarbas Lopes, Juan Araujo, Leonor Antunes, Marcius Galan, Marepe and Tonico Lemos Auad. Galeria Luisa Strina will also be showcasing works from Anna Maria Maiolino’s poignant photographic seriesFotopoemação, at the fair this year.

Mendes Wood DM will be showcasing previously unseen works by Runo Lagomarsino and Thiago Martins de Melo, and pieces from Paulo Nazareth’s series Cadernos de Africa. Vermelho will be showcasing works by a diverse range of artists including André Komatsu, Cadu, Chiara Banfi, Cinthia Marcelle, Claudia Andujar, Detanico Lain, Dora Longo Bahia, Jonathas de Andrade, Marcelo Cidade, Nicolás Bacal, Nicolás Robbio, Odires Mlászho and Rodrigo Braga. Within the Focus exhibitor sector, Galeria Jaqueline Martins will be displaying a solo presentation of work by the late Brazilian artist, Hudinilson Jr whose major retrospective at this year’s Glasgow International was widely admired by critics.
A Gentil Carioca will be displaying work at both Frieze London and Frieze Masters this year. Within the main sector at Frieze London, the gallery will be showcasing works by Jarbas Lopes, João Modé, José Bento, Maria Laet, Maria Nepomuceno and Thiago Rocha Pitta. A Gentil Carioca will also display works by Paulo Nenflidio, famous for his kinetic sound sculptures and works by the renowned conceptual artist Laura Lima. For the Spotlight sector of Frieze Masters, A Gentil Carioca will present the work of pioneering Brazilian Contemporary artist, Hélio Oiticica.
