Damien Hirst Mini and Lucian Freud portrait viewed in Diamond Redbridge Tour
Visitors have been advised to arrive at the park by 9.30am (29 March) to prepare themselves for a once in a lifetime visit from The Queen to Redbridge today. It is part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations and commences with her arrival at around 10.25am.
The Queen tour will take on a visit to an exhibition of world renowned British art from throughout her reign.The Queen will also visit the London Pride art and design festival to open the new dry garden, a colourful display designed especially for the Diamond Jubilee. The exhibition will run until Sunday 1 April and includes key art and design pieces from London’s top galleries, museums and universities. Exhibits include Damien Hirst’s iconic mini, paintings by Lucien Freud, Francis Bacon and David Hockney and stunning sculptures called The Queen’s Beasts.They will also meet civic and community leaders and view the 60 faces photographic exhibition.
Contributors to the exhibition include The Tate Gallery, The Saatchi Gallery, The Design Museum, Central St Martins School of Art and Design, The Royal College of Art, London Metropolitan University and Redbridge Museum.
There will be a big marquee filled with children’s activities on the Saturday 31 March and Sunday 1 April. The Big Book bubble offers a magical wonderland for children, featuring some of their best loved stories. The interactive exhibition will include actors and story tellers and bright, colourful set design to bring books to life. There will also be a fantastic display of knitted characters and scenes from Children’s stories with the Once Upon a Time exhibition by The Materialistics.
Queen Elizabeth is also getting a makeover at Madame Tussauds.The famous wax museum is giving the monarch amore realistic look for the Diamond Jubilee, replacing the head she has had since 2001. This will be the 23rd time the Queen has been updated in wax at the museum. The new waxwork is being modeled after her official Jubilee photograph and is expected to be on display from May. The Queen will be taking up her place beside her consort Prince Philip. New sculptures of Prince William and Kate Middleton are also to be unveiled in April. The cost of the new Queen is thought to be about $235,000.
