Rare Andy Warhol Polaroids On Display In New London Exhibition

Andy Warhol Polaroids

The Privatus Gallery in Mayfair have mounted an exhibition, taken from a private collection of never publicly seen photos by the Pop artist Andy Warhol. From candid’s of the iconic Elizabeth Taylor to photobooth strips of faces from the 80′s, the collection, which was collected by art enthusiast James Hedges promises to be one of Andy’s most intimate shows.

From Mick Jagger to Diane von Furstenberg, Andy Warhol captured the glamour of stars at their best in the best way he could: through the lenses of his cameras. Many of the pictures, have never been seen since leaving Warhol’s studio. The showcase will feature still-life shots, travel photography and photobooth strips, in addition to candid and witty images of ‘superstars’ such as Viva, and David Hockney.

Andy Warhol is widely recognised as one of the defining figures of 20th century art and culture, as well as a philanthropist of extraordinary generosity.  As an artist, he unabashedly embraced the populist and the commercial. Born August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987), he was an American painter, printmaker, and filmmaker who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became famous worldwide for his work as a painter, avant-garde filmmaker, record producer, author, and member of highly diverse social circles that included Bohemian street people, distinguished intellectuals, Hollywood celebrities and wealthy patrons.

Andy Warhol Photography opens at Privatus from February 11 until March 1. Viewing by appointment only.
