It’s just under 2 weeks to go until Hackney WickED 10, London’s biggest open studio event – Over 40 cultural venues & spaces from across Hackney Wick & Fish Island have joined forces to co-create this years’ programme – Don’t miss the chance to witness the unique creative talent and inner workings of London’s ‘Creative Square Mile’. For one weekend only, art lovers from across London and the world are invited to Explore the labyrinth of spaces that make up “London’s Creative Square Mile”, be Inspired and Buy new artworks from a range of artists – from renowned international names to the exciting new generation of the grassroots scene, students, and everything in between.

A snapshot of Hackney WickED 10 and the many activities includes: the opportunity to view studios of over 100 of London’s leading contemporary artists from SPACE Studios, Stour Space, Grow Studios, London Centre for Book Arts, Arbiet Studios, Studio Wayne McGregor, Mother X and more. Numerous exhibitions, including the Hackney WickED group show <WHO ARE WE>, Unit G Gallery’s WickED Walls, Felstead Studios Anniversary Group Show and pop-up exhibitions across the area. Morning Gloryville’s world-renowned sober rave. Film screenings at The Yard Theatre. A diverse programme of participatory events, including House of Hackney WickED workshops, ‘Hidden Hackney Wick’ walking tours with Hackney Tours, POWER Space dance, Mesmeric Drawing with Mellisa Alley and much more…

Hackney WickED 10 2019 Group Show <WHO ARE WE> explores our political, physical and cultural identities as human beings. <WHO ARE WE> will showcase Hackney Wick’s diverse range of artists and will take place in the pop-up exhibition space at The Trampery on Fish Island. The world-renowned sober rave is coming to WickED! Their high-energy DJs, artist actors, yoga, massage and wellness practitioners will activate the artistic heart of Hackney Wick.

Open Studios at Grow, Hackney Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th

Grow Studios is part of the Grow eco-system in Main Yard, Hackney Wick. In operation for over 10 years, Grow studios have provided space for over 100 local artists, creative practitioners and small businesses to build, create, make and grow. Two floors will open over the HWED weekend, including Djs, live printing on Saturday, print-making workshops, ceramics, concrete artist / 3D design, gym (dad and baby workshop), eco pod, lift gallery, conceptual art, Live Grafitti and more.

Green House London

New addition to Hackney Wick, cafe, bar and dancehall set in the scenic space of an old meat packing factory. Expect the weird, wonderful and usually something delicious.

Pineapple Pizza headline Saturday night for a groovy journey of house and disco edits.

SPACE Open Studios

SPACE has two artist studio buildings open to the public over the weekend: Britannia Works and Bridget Riley artist studio buildings. Come and see behind the scenes of a working artist’s studio, meet the artists and buy work direct from their studio.

Felstead Studios – 2nd Anniversary

2019 marks two years since the launch of Felstead Studios and we shall be celebrating the occasion during Hackney WickED DIY Open Studios this year. The studio shall be host to an group exhibition of local and national artists, we shall also have both original artworks and limited edition prints for sale, and discounts on our framing services.. Arbeit – Trowbridge Gardens

Arbeit is opening new artist studios at 1 Trowbridge road E9 5LD. On Saturday they will be doing tours of the studios space and the gardens from 2.30 to 4pm for artists interested in renting out the space as a studio space in the future

Hackney Herbal will have the new herb garden open for people to look around. There will be herbal tea for people to try and free seed sowing activity. The activities will be free with an optional donation

The Wallpaper Diaries: Phoebe Deeprose

Month long Artist-In-Residence at CRATE Brewery – This exhibition, ‘The Wallpaper Diaries’ builds upon a recent collection of textile pieces, experimenting further with the process of journaling through illustrative story telling and large scale provocative artworks’. With a developing fascination in how spaces can affect our lives; Phoebe uses her artworks to create bespoke interior pieces, building atmospheric spaces to escape in and reconnect with the natural world.

Live! AT Giant Steps

Live jazz music taking place outside on Giant Steps canal-side terrace where musicians have been asked to pick a seminal jazz album and play a live set inspired by that album with a band of their choice. Keep up to date

We’ll be serving food from the BBQ and ice-cold drinks all day from noon, and the performances will start at 3pm sharp.

The Circle – Film Screening
Friday 26th

The Circle is a bold and lyrical portrayal of two brothers, David and Sanchez, living on a Hackney council estate, in East London. The film gives a compelling insight into their family and friendships, the stigmas they face daily, their mental health and how they process their emotions. Combining dance with documentary, their story and the challenges they face are embodied through vivid movement sequences. Supported by BFI Doc Society and Hackney Quest.

A Bit Of Everything (ABOE) Yard Sale

ABOE (A Bit Of Everything) is an arts & music movement/platform that documents and supports young artists. The event we would like to run in Hackney WickED is ‘The ABOE Yard Sale’. It will be a day event for upcoming artists & brands to sell clothes + art, thrifting and donate clothes to charity. The aim is to support upcoming artists as well as promoting sustainable clothing & recycling. With handpicked DJ’s will playing music and setting the vibe throughout the day! RSVP HERE

London Centre for Book Arts

Based in what was once the heart of east London’s print industry, the London Centre for Book Arts (LCBA) is an artist-run, open-access studio offering education programmes for the community and affordable access to resources for artists and designers. The Centre’s mission is to foster and promote book arts and artist-led publishing in the UK through collaboration, education, distribution, and by providing open-access to printing, binding and publishing facilities.

Hackney Tours – Hidden Hackney Wick: Uncensored

‘Hidden Hackney Wick: Uncensored’ is an alternative art walk & thought-provocation by Hackney Tours. Founder Simon Cole has been exploring the Wick for 10 years, watching and recording the changes in a place that’s been an important part of his own creative journey. In this 1hr walk he gives a version of the decade you won’t find in the brochure.
