Everardo Miranda and Gustavo Speridião present exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro
Anita Schwartz Gallery presents, June 27, Everardo Miranda applies iron oxide by means of friction, onto the wall with a length of 19 linear feet, four feet in height. The edges are fuzzy, hazy, with the exception of a meter wide in the center of the front wall, where it will leave an empty space, “as an act of sculptural prunning, removing excess,” the artist explains. Painting the sidewalls with iron oxide is demarcated into two large rectangles. The excess pigment will be deposited on the ground, “waste” of this action. The experience brings Rothko and Mira Schendel’s to mind. The large scale is a differential approach, says, Paulo Sérgio Duarte, curator.
At the same time, the gallery shows Gustavo Speridião with photos that belong to two distinct series: “A Photographic Epic” and “Surface Studies”, both produced between 2006 and 2013. Some Gustavo’s works will be presented in the prestigious Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. In Anita Schwartz Gallery will be presented the serie “A Photographic Epic”, which consists 43 sets of photos in total. This series is the result of a long process, conducted over seven years – 2006 to 2013 – in 18 countries: Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, England, France, Holland, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Morocco and Egypt.
