TEFAF Modern Includes Over 10 British Modern and Contemporary Dealers

TEFAF Maastricht the most prestigious fine art and antiques fair in the world. Held each year in the Dutch cultural centre of Maastricht, it gets underway 16 – 25 March with a gala opening today. The fair will be presenting an outstanding event that offers the best choice of the very best, in fine art, design antiques and objects. All visitors to the event will have a unique chance to view and to buy paintings from Bruegel to Bacon as well as objects reflecting 7,000 years of excellence in the applied arts. This is the creme de la creme, an elegantly displayed selection of genuine masterpieces from more than 260 of the world’s most prestigious art and antiques dealers from 18 countries. It would be difficult to find such rigorous investigation of their quality, condition and authenticity. Every item is checked by one of 29 vetting committees made up of over 175 internationally respected experts.

TEFAF Maastricht is one of the most  distinguished company of dealers, academics, art critics, and collectors. During the week of the fair, anyone who is anyone in the field of fine art will decent on this beautiful town. It offers a conducive  environment where you can enjoy old and new art. 

TEFAF Modern takes up a quarter of the fair and offers classical modern and contemporary art. Around forty-five top dealers present a cross-section of 20th and 21st-century art from around the globe. This is where you will come face to face with masterpieces by Renoir, Picasso, Poliakoff and Kandinsky. The items on offer at TEFAF Modern are very diverse. All of them of the top quality you would expect from TEFAF. There are sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs and video installations. Big names like Henry Moore, Willem de Kooning and Rothko are there. But you can also be surprised by contemporary artists like Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor and Francis Bacon.

This section contains the world’s top specialists in 20th-century design and applied art. TEFAF Maastricht constantly evolves to reinforce its position as the world’s most influential art and antiques fair. In 2009 a new section, called TEFAF Design, was introduced to strengthen its appeal in a field which attracts a growing number of private and professional collectors. TEFAF Design highlights leading international specialists in twentieth-century design and applied arts.

Six galleries have been selected to take part in TEFAF Showcase 2012. The selected candidates, who will be taking part in TEFAF’s Silver Jubilee edition, are specialists from a range of disciplines including modern jewellery, contemporary art, Old Master paintings and Japanese art. Three are from the United Kingdom, one from Italy, one from France and the sixth will become the first-ever TEFAF exhibitor from Hungary.

    • Didier Antiques (London)

Didier Haspeslagh and Martine Newby Haspeslagh launched the gallery in 2006. It specializes in artist’s jewels by post-war painters and sculptors and silver and gold wares by leading 20th century designers and architects. www.didierantiques.com
    • Fergus Hall – Master Paintings (London)
Fergus Hall set up his independent dealership in 2008 and specializes in Old Masters, primarily 17th century Dutch and Flemish paintings and British pictures from the 18th century. www.hallmasterpaintings.com
    • Kálmán Makláry Fine Arts (Budapest)
This modern and contemporary art gallery focuses on the works of Hungarian artists who have lived in France such as Judit Reigl, Alfréd Réth and István Sándorfi. www.kalmanmaklary.com
    • Giuseppe Piva Japanese Art (Milan)
Giuseppe Piva deals in a range of Japanese works of art, including armour, helmets, swords, screens, netsuke and lacquers. www.giuseppepiva.com
    • Christophe de Quénetain (Paris)
Established in 2001, Christophe de Quénetain specializes in 17th, 18th and 19th century furniture and objects d’art. The gallery’s expertise also covers Old Master paintings and drawings from the same period. www.christophedequenetain.com
    • Vigo Gallery (London)
This new contemporary gallery was set up by Thomas Williams and Toby Clarke in September 2011.
