Marlborough London presents Love is the Devil: Studies after Francis Bacon. In light of a major exhibition dedicated to Britain’s greatest figurative painter at the Royal Academy of Arts, the show will present a selection of works by contemporary artists whose practices resonate with Bacon’s idiosyncratic approach to the depiction of the human form.

This powerful exhibition will focus on Francis Bacon’s unerring fascination with animals: how it both shaped his approach to the human body and distorted it; how, caught at the most extreme moments of existence, his figures are barely recognisable as either human or beast.

Francis Bacon’s late large-format Triptych Inspired by the Greek tragedy Oresteia of Aeschylus, will go under the hammer at Sotheby’s. This will be the highlight their Contemporary Art Evening Auction in New York on 13 May 2020, when it will be offered with an estimate in excess of $60 million.

It created quite a stir in the press, as the collection remains unauthenticated by the Bacon estate and rejected as fakes by the author of the new catalogue raisonné.
